Bleed cooling systems professionally

Airlift system from Behr Hella Service provides protection from damage and from the cooling system overheating

Schwäbisch Hall/Lippstadt, May 2007. With the “Airlift” system from Behr Hella Service, garages can carry out professional bleeding of cooling systems after the replacement of components or after changing the coolant. With the special tool, air bubbles can be eliminated, leaks can be localized and coolant can be refilled.

Air pockets in motor-vehicle cooling systems are a widespread problem. These “air bubbles” are caused by the radiator or the expansion tank being positioned at the level of the vehicle engine, or even below it. In this case, the complete bleeding of the cooling system after carrying out a repair or when changing the coolant can present a serious problem. Air remaining in the cooling system considerably reduces the circulation of the coolant and can lead to the engine overheating, resulting in major damage. The thermal-management experts from Behr Hella Service therefore recommend the use of the Airlift system.

This is first connected to the radiator or the expansion tank by means of the adapters included in the scope of supply, and it is then connected to the compressed-air hose with which otherwise the garage compressed-air tools are operated.

Via a special valve, “Airlift“ evacuates the cooling system and generates a strong vacuum. After this, connect the suction hose enclosed and fill the cooling system with fresh coolant from a clean coolant container, such as a bucket or a watering can. With the aid of the manometer, which measures the vacuum on the “Airlift” system, the tightness of the entire system can be checked at the same time.

Caution: In the case of vehicles with electric water valves, it must be ensured that these are opened during the bleeding process, such as by switching on the ignition.
